The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) says it would strengthen the capacity of fonio (Acha) farmers in Kaduna state.
The state coordinator, Dr. Kasim Ahmad disclose this at a one-day capacity-building workshop on new modern techniques in the production, processing, and export of fonio in Kaduna state.
He said the workshop came at the right as the state is one of the largest producers of fonio, that is Acha in the country.
Dr. Kasim explained that it is incumbent upon Acha farmers in the state to be abreast of the modern production and processing techniques of the product to attract the world market.
In his remark, the key speaker at the workshop, Professor Luscious Bamaiyi of the department of crop protection Institute of Agricultural Research Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, urged the fonio or Acha producers to key into the modern farming techniques for more profit.
He stressed that research on fonio production in other countries had shown that its producers are quite benefitting a lot as a result of embarrassing new modern farming and processing techniques.
Professor Bamaiyi, therefore, advised the fonio farmers to strictly work with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council to successfully process, market, and export their products to other countries.
He commended the foresight of the council for organizing the workshop for Acha producers at this material time which is expected to yield fruitful results.
Also speaking, the National President of the Acha Farmers Association, Mr. Isaac Kureh noted that Acha apart from consumption as food it's also served diabetic patients as medicine.
Isaac kureh assured continued collaboration of the Acha farmers Association with the National Export Promotion Council, to achieve success.
