SWAN COMMENDS LAGOS CHAPTER CARETAKER COMMITTEE

The National Secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is delighted with the landmark achievements so far recorded by the Caretaker Executive Committee in its Lagos State Chapter.

President of SWAN, Sir Honour Sirawoo while reacting to the milestones reached by the Aaron Akerejola-led Caretaker Committee said he is delighted that within a very short period, the Committee is fast restoring the dignity of the Association.

A statement by the SWAN General Secretary, Jude Opara revealed that Sirawoo particularly lauded the Committee for winning the support and respect of notable and prominent Lagosians; some of whom were decorated with benefitting Awards recently.

The SWAN President further urged members of the general public to continue to partner with the Caretaker Committee and to disregard the shenanigans of the group trying to hide under the elusive banner of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to spread falsehood concerning the Association.

He further regretted the sad development in Nigeria where impunity is fast becoming a norm rather than the exception.

“Unfortunately, people will brazenly want to turn logic on its head, if not why will a man who failed to even renew his membership of an Association for over five years and was subsequently removed from office for failing to conduct an election continue to claim to be the Chairman of the same Association”?

He further described it as a display of ignorance for people to be referring to the acronym of the Association “SWAN” as “SWANI” just because the Association is registered. In their delusion, they have forgotten that every registered body is incorporated and does not change their registered acronym.

Furthermore, it is another display of impunity that a certain Bunmi Ogunyale, former Secretary of the Lagos chapter who absconded from the Commonwealth Games will stay in his hideout in London to issue statements he cannot substantiate.

It could be recalled that the Caretaker Committee for the Lagos State Chapter was set up by the National Secretariat of SWAN in line with its Statute after the former executive committee led by Mr.Debo Oshundun failed to conduct a fresh election at the expiration of his tenure
