Kaduna State Ministry of Sports Development has described the state weightlifting association as a medal-haul consistent association that always brings glory to the state.
The Commissioner of Sports Development, Samaila Idris Nyam who stated this during the inauguration of Kaduna State Weightlifting Association board members of the Association in Kaduna, congratulated the inaugurated members.
The commissioner was represented at the event by the Deputy Director of Sports Administration, Ms. Florence Yori noted with confidence that the members assist the state to promote the game.
“I really want to say Weightlifting Association has been a big association in Kaduna State, I mean it is big because when we take the lifters (players) out of competitions we never return empty but with medals for the state, one lifter can win three gold medals”.
“So Weightlifting Association is an association that we value very well and l am sure you know one of our weightlifters Maryam Usman, represented Nigeria, became African Champion and she is now in the US, she added.
Earlier, in a welcome address, the Kaduna State Weightlifting Association Chairman, Mr. Aliu Okeme, assured to provide lifters with regular tournaments to help test and sharpen their skills, including attending tournaments outside the state.
Mr. Okeme said together with board members they will ensure that weightlifting equipment is provided, and charged coaches to work hard to train, guide, and support them in conduct.
” For the players, you have to work harder to outshine your colleagues in the game, I believe the Nigerian Weightlifting Scene is revolutionizing and there might be opportunities at both the National and International scenes to showcase your prowess”.
The Chairman of the Kaduna State Weightlifting Association appealed to the state government to provide them with an alternative training facility after the only one previously used at Murtala Square was taken over.
“Lack of a gym is of great concern, we are all aware of the great transformation our governor, His Excellency, Malam Nasiru Ahmad El rufai is doing, that transformation in the area of sports has led to the rehabilitation of Murtala Muhammed Square including the mini gym which had been our place of training I want to use this opportunity to plead with His Excellency, Malam Nasiru Ahmad El rufai to take a second look by providing enabling environment for us to train and we will bring glory to Kaduna State".
