In a demonstration of love and promotion of human capital development in Kaduna State, particularly, Abakwa- Unguwan Shanu Community, a politician, Honourable Abubakar Mahmud (JARMAN ABAKWA) has paid about one million naira to over 50 final year secondary school students.
The gesture which he described as part of his community development effort, targeted the improvement of the educational standard of the young people of the area.
The Jarman Abakwa- who spoke through his political aide, former Unguwan Shanu councilor, Honourable Sani Adiyalo said the payment was part of a campaign promises to the people.
He noted that the best way to curb crimes and criminality is to educate the people.
“We had promised the people education which is the best way to rid our communities of crimes and criminals, you and I know that a literate person doesn’t have time for bad friends which also keep him away from bad peer influence”.
Honourable Abubakar Mahmud said the payment was to help parents cushion the burden of WAEC fees in the area.
“We have been saying that education of our people is our priority, those who benefited were children of the poor, mostly the vulnerable from our different wards in the local government”
He promised to do more and convince different organizations to channel their Corporate Social Responsibility to support educational programs.
“I am doing this as a private citizen. I know it’s not enough, but I promise to do more and support educational development of our people”.
Some of the students appreciated Jarman Abakwa for the gesture and promised to be diligent in their studies.
They said they were inspired by the philanthropic gesture of Honorable Abubakar Mahmud, adding that the WAEC payment would help them become successful in life.
Malam Nura Ibrahim, Sarkin Unguwan Shanu thanked the traditional title holder, Jarman Abakwa for investing in the educational development of young people of his domain.
Malam Ibrahim called on other well meaning Nigerians and politicians to note that education is the best legacy to leave behind.
On his part, the Principal of Asmau Ahmed Makarfi Government Secondary School said received the sum of seven hundred and thirty-five thousand naira for 35 final year students while the rest was paid to Success Secondary school.
Some parents showered encomium on the donor and urged him to sustain the legacy.
According to the parents, government alone should not be saddled with the responsibility of providing qualitative and quantitative education, hence the need for wealthy people in the Society to complement the government’s efforts in having a good educational System.
