The Network of Peace Journalists on the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP), Program with the coordination from Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC), Kaduna, has commended Nigerians for the peaceful conduct of gubernatorial and States Houses of Assembly elections.
While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for timely distribution of election materials to various polling units across the States, the Peace Journalists described the effort as productive and healthy to democratic process.
In a statement made available to the newsmen by the Team leader of the network, Ibrahima Yakubu who equally applauded the states and federal government for the deployment of massive security across the country towards maintaning peace and order with the aim of having a Successful and hitch-free conduct of the election.
Ibrahima also lauded traditional title holders, religious leaders, para-military, Civilian JTF, Youth, Women groups, Hunter's Association of Nigeria, local and foreign observers as well as the Electorates for the peaceful conduct of the election.
He expressed satisfactory over the just concluded states and houses of Assembly elections, saying its the best in the history of Nigeria.
While calling on candidates who did not win the elections to embrace the results of elections in good faith for peace and stability in the country.
The network warned against the spread of unsubstantiated news on the social media while the collation of the gubernatorial and assembly elections results is on going.
He equally raised alarm over the unprofessional and quacks journalists spread news on their social media handles.
He further commended patriotic Nigerian for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during the presidential and National Assembly elections in some part of countries.
