A member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Hon. Muhammad Adam Alkali OON, has urged the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA to rehabilitate the Jos-Bauchi road and enlighten commercial and heavy truck drivers to ensure safety-drive on the road.
The member in a motion in the green chamber on urgent need to rehabilitate Jos-Bauchi road, noted with displeasure the dilapidated state of the road, coupled with reckless driving and abandoned broken down trucks on the road.
“Further urge the Federal Road Safety Corps, to introduce regular vehicular checks, and also intensify highway patrols on the road, to ensure strict compliance to traffic regulations”.
The motion on the floor also seeks to “mandate the Committees on Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Federal Road Safety Commission to ensure compliance”.
The member representing Bassa/Jos North said the traffic violations endanger commuters and residents of the surrounding villages from Kunga hills-Zakaliyo-Babale, linking Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State to the entire North East and some parts of the North Western States in grave danger.
He promised to lobby further for prompt proactive measures to be taken against future occurrences, as contained in his motion on the Jos-Bauchi Road being a death trap for commuters.
The people’s representative further called on constituents to be vigilant while plying the road and to always support authorities when the incidence of such unavoidably occurred as he nonetheless prayed it never occurs in the future.
