The Northern Concern Lawyers Forum has resolved to take legal action against the federal government and Nigerian Military for killing innocent people in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State.

Addressing newsmen at a Press Conference at the Arewa today, Saturday 9th December 2023 on the issue, a member of the forum who spoke on behalf of the group, Nafi'u Abubakar Esq., said the tragic incident, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, "left us deeply saddened and concerned about the safety and security of the citizens of our beloved nation".

Barrister Nafi'u described the Nigerian Army's airstrike on innocent people in Tudun Biri who were peacefully celebrating the Maulud as reckless and unbecoming of a professional soldier.

"The Nigerian Army's claim that this tragic incident was a result of error or mistake is deeply troubling to us. We firmly believe that such occurrences should have never happened in the first place, especially during a time of joyful celebration and unity. It is unacceptable and goes against the principles of justice and respect for human rights".

"As representatives of the legal fraternity in Northern Nigeria, we stand firmly in support of the affected victims and their families. We must ensure that justice is served and that the rights of these innocent victims are protected".

According to him, the Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum will be instituting legal action against the Federal Government, demanding the payment of adequate compensation for the victims and their families who have suffered irreparable loss as a result of this unfortunate incident.

The Northern Group of Lawyers called on the Federal Government to take immediate action to ensure a thorough and independent investigation into this incident

"It is imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions, and measures are put in place to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future".

They also urged the Nigerian Army to reevaluate its rules of engagement and training procedures to prevent the loss of innocent lives during military operations. "It is vital that the Nigerian Army, as a defender of the nation, exercises utmost caution to avoid any further instances of collateral damage and civilian casualties".

The forum extended its deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during this tragic incident and assured to explore all legal means to claim compensation for the victims.

"We stand united with them in their grief and pledge our unwavering support in ensuring justice is served. The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum will work tirelessly to pursue legal means to claim the compensation that is owed to the victims".
