"Kaduna Teachers Unite: Demanding Safe Return of Abducted Students and Pupils" - News Panorama

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT) Kaduna State Wing, expresses deep sorrow and solidarity in response to the tragic kidnapping of 187 pupils from LGEA Kuriga I, 100 students from GSS Kuriga, and their Principal, Malam Abubakar Isah, on March 7, 2024.

The Union extends heartfelt condolences to Governor Uba Sani, the Executive Council Chairman of Chikun Local Government, and the affected families. 

In a statement issued by the Kaduna State NUT Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu, described the swift visit of Governor Sani to the affected school, displaying genuine concern, is acknowledged and appreciated.

In the face of this appalling incident, the Union urgently calls on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the victims, fostering their reunion with worried parents and loved ones. "There is an imperative need for enhanced security measures, especially in rural schools, to safeguard our children's education," the statement advocated.

"To the grieving parents, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God provide comfort and strength during this trying time. For those with children still in captivity, we urge patience and steadfastness as we await the concerted efforts of our security agencies for a swift resolution."

Amidst these challenging times, the Union encourages teachers not to be deterred, assuring them of the government's commitment to fortify school security. 

"We remain resolute in our dedication to the welfare of our members, collaborating with the government to ensure the safety of both educators and students."

Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu, State Chairman, reaffirms the Union's unwavering commitment and gratitude for the collective effort in navigating this crisis. 

The Union stands united, trusting that concerted actions will lead to the safe return of the abducted students and pupils.
