Over 100 Pregnant and Nursing Mothers Receive Free Birth Kits in Kaduna

KADUNA, NIGERIA – In a bid to promote healthy motherhood and encourage antenatal practice, over 100 pregnant and nursing mothers have received free birth kits courtesy of Project Smile For Humanity Foundation, Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRIN) and the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board.
The recipients of the Mama Kits,  Favour Francis, Nancy Amos, and Habiba Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the donors, describing the gesture as unprecedented.
According to Aishatu Gambo Jakada, Adolescent Health and Nutrition Officer under ANRIN, a balanced diet provides energy, supports physical and mental health, and helps prevent illnesses. “Nutritious food is essential for mothers as it directly impacts their health, well-being, and ability to care for their families.”
Hajiya Habiba Ahmed Aliyu, Kaduna State Reproductive Health Coordinator, emphasized the importance of antenatal care, stating that it ensures a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum period. She encouraged pregnant mothers to attend antenatal appointments, emphasizing the importance of quality care and timely interventions.
On her part, the founder and Executive Director of Projectsmile for Humanity Foundation, Comfort Ojo, the program aims to prioritize the well-being of pregnant and nursing mothers, ensuring they receive quality care and support during this critical period.
Ms. Ojo expressed gratitude to Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board and Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRIN) for their assistance and collaboration in making the program a success.
“This initiative is a step towards reducing maternal mortality and promoting healthy motherhood in Kaduna State.”
The event, held to commemorate Safe Motherhood, aimed to encourage pregnant mothers to prioritize their health and their baby’s well-being, leading to a positive pregnancy experience and a healthy start for their child.
The free delivery kits are expected to support and encourage health facility delivery, discouraging home deliveries and promoting access to quality care.
