Following persistent concerns and reported irregularities surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, Northern youth activist Abubakar Yusuff has amplified his call, now directly appealing to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to consider a re-marking of examination papers, particularly for students in the Northern region.
Building on his earlier demands for a review due to acknowledged errors and state-based operational groupings, Yusuff's latest appeal underscores a growing sentiment of distrust and calls for a more thorough reassessment of candidates' performances.
Speaking in Kaduna, he stressed that a simple review might not be sufficient to address the depth of the concerns raised by students and stakeholders in the North.
"The initial acknowledgement of errors by JAMB was a welcome first step, but the lingering doubts and reports of inconsistencies necessitate a more comprehensive approach," Yusuff stated.
"A re-marking of examination papers, especially for our students in the Northern region who were part of the 'KAD vehicle' grouping with Southern states, is now crucial to restore confidence in the integrity of the UTME results."
Yusuff argued that a re-marking process would provide a more accurate reflection of each student's actual performance, thereby ensuring greater fairness and equity. He highlighted the anxieties and frustrations expressed by students who believe their scores do not accurately represent their efforts and capabilities.
"Our students deserve to have their hard work fairly evaluated," Yusuff asserted. "A re-marking exercise would not only address potential discrepancies arising from the initial errors but also alleviate the widespread concerns about the transparency and accuracy of the entire examination process."
The youth activist called on JAMB to consider this appeal with utmost urgency and empathy for the affected students. He urged the board to explore the logistical and technical feasibility of re-marking examination papers, especially for the Northern candidates whose results are under scrutiny due to the operational groupings and initial errors.
This renewed and more direct appeal for a re-marking of UTME papers signifies a growing dissatisfaction and a stronger push for JAMB to take more extensive measures to ensure a fair and credible outcome for all candidates, particularly those in the Northern region.
The response from JAMB to this significant demand is now highly anticipated in Nassarawa, Kaduna, and across the nation.
