The Jos North Local Government Council has officially launched a six-month ICT Training and Empowerment Program aimed at equipping youths, students, professionals, and aspiring technocrats with essential digital skills and innovative tools for economic productivity and self-reliance.
The initiative, themed _"Technology for Grassroots Transformation: Empowering Jos North through Sustainable Digital Skills, Innovation, and Empowerment Program,"_ was flagged off by the Executive Chairman of the Council, Barr. John Kyohroh Christopher, who reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a digitally empowered and technologically innovative community.
Speaking at the event, Christopher emphasized the importance of ICT in modern society, stating that digital literacy is crucial for economic growth and community development. He assured participants of the Council’s continued investment in grassroots transformation through technology.
The program is backed by several key institutions, including the Plateau State Ministry of Science and Technology, Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA), Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), Industrial Training Fund (ITF), and MTN Nigeria.
These organizations are expected to provide expertise, resources, and support to ensure the success of the initiative.
The launch event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Director General of PICTDA, Engr. Dominic Datong Gwaman, and the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Cletus Bako Shurkuk. Both officials commended the Council’s leadership for prioritizing technological development and pledged their full support toward the success of the program.
Hon. Abdulaziz Muhammad Sani, Special Assistant on Media to the Executive Chairman, presented the framework and policy documentation of the initiative, outlining its structure, objectives, and implementation strategies. He described the program as a significant step toward transforming Jos North into a hub of digital excellence and innovation.
The Jos North Local Government Council has reiterated its commitment to inclusive empowerment policies, youth development, and grassroots transformation through technology, positioning the local government as a center for digital advancement and socio-economic empowerment.
