National Sports Commission During A Remark at the Sahel Savannah Series 2025 final
The grand finale of the Sahel Savannah Series 2025 roared to life at Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, from July 9th to July 12th, captivating spectators with the sights and sounds of hoofbeats, vibrant heritage, and elite competition. Dubbed the Renewed Hope International Horse Racing Derby, this edition drew Nigeria and West Africa’s finest equestrian athletes, cultural icons, and passionate fans for a breathtaking celebration of sport and tradition.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, praised the vibrancy of the tournament and expressed the federal government’s commitment to transforming sports into a formidable economic sector. “We were in Bida for the first series, and now I return for the final—to represent Mr. President once again. It shows how deeply this administration supports this sport that celebrates our culture, tradition, tourism, and the Nigerian identity,” he said.

Dikko acknowledged the Federation’s request for formal recognition by the federal government and assured stakeholders of swift action. “We will collaborate with the Federation to upscale the sport, and ensure it becomes much better and much bigger. The government is ready to engage with all necessary authorities to make this happen as quickly as possible,” he affirmed.
In a remark, the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, stressed horse racing’s power to unify and evoke cherished memories. Reflecting on his childhood near the square, he said, “This event brought me back to my youthful days—over 50 years ago. Today, everyone had fun. The spirit of the game unites us, and I’m glad to see spectators from all walks of life join in the celebration.”
The Emir extended gratitude to international participants from Sudan, Cameroon, and other nations, highlighting the sport’s global appeal. He praised the sponsors and commended the commitment shown by horse riders and fans who journeyed across emirates for the tournament.
