The President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Titus Amba, has strongly criticized the recent use of the NUT Endwell Hotel in Kaduna by former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for a political gathering.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, Comrade Amba expressed disbelief and outrage over what he described as a hypocritical and shameful act. He recalled that during El-Rufai’s tenure, the former governor allegedly scrapped the NUT Endwell Scheme—an initiative established to support the welfare of teachers nationwide.
“It is deeply ironic and unacceptable,” Amba stated, “that the same individual who halted the activities of the Endwell Scheme would now choose to use its facilities for political purposes.”
He emphasized that the Endwell Hotel is more than just a commercial establishment; it stands as a symbol of the resilience and unity of Nigerian teachers in their pursuit of welfare and dignity, especially in the face of longstanding government neglect.
Comrade Amba further described El-Rufai’s actions as a direct insult to the teaching profession, noting that educators across the country have endured years of hardship under policies that failed to prioritize their well-being.
He called on the former governor to respect institutions built by and for teachers, warning that such disregard would not be tolerated in the future.
