A first-half goal proved decisive as Team Katsina held off a fierce comeback from the hosts to secure a narrow 1-0 victory and be crowned champions of the Northwest tournament in Kaduna.
In a thrilling finale to the inaugural Moses Andishu Northwest YSFON U-17 Boys Football Tournament 2025, Team Katsina secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Team Kaduna A to be crowned champions.
The decisive goal was scored in the first half of the match, which took place this Sunday at the Murtala Muhammad Square in Kaduna.
The highly-anticipated final was a closely contested affair. After Team Katsina took the lead, Team Kaduna A mounted a series of fierce attacks, desperately seeking an equalizer. However, the Katsina defense held firm, and time eventually ran out for the hosts, who had to watch as their opponent lifted the trophy in front of a large crowd of local supporters.
In the third-place playoff, Team Jigawa defeated Team Kaduna B to claim the bronze medal, completing the podium.
Speaking after the final whistle, the tournament's sponsor, Moses Andishu, expressed his delight at the event's success.
He noted that the tournament had unearthed a wealth of young talent and pledged to do everything possible to support these promising players in their future careers.
Both Jonathan Gado, head coach of Team Kaduna A, and Muhammad Tukur Hassan, head coach of Team Katsina, commended the organizers of YSFON for their dedication and resilience.
They also praised the main sponsor, Moses Andishu, for his vision of giving back to society by assisting youth through sports.
Meanwhile, a number of players and coaches were recognized for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
The Most Valuable Player award went to a standout player from Kaduna, while the Best Goalkeeper award was claimed by another talented youngster.
The title of Best Coach of the Tournament was also presented to a deserving individual. Additionally, other gifts and accolades were given to various well-deserved personalities who contributed to the success of the event.
