The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has joined voices around the world in commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child, emphasizing the urgent need to invest in girls’ leadership, education, and digital inclusion.
In a statement signed by Chairperson Sahura Jibrin Maidoki and Secretary Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, NAWOJ Kaduna reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying the voices of girls and advocating for their rights through inclusive media representation. The association highlighted the importance of creating platforms that showcase the achievements and potential of girls, especially in underserved communities.
“This year’s theme reminds us that empowering girls is not just a moral imperative—it’s a strategic investment in the future,” the statement read. “We call on government agencies, development partners, civil society organizations, and community leaders to strengthen efforts that protect the girl child from abuse, discrimination, and marginalization.”
NAWOJ Kaduna also underscored the role of women journalists in promoting gender equality and mentorship, pledging to continue using media as a tool for advocacy and transformation.
The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11, serves as a global platform to spotlight the challenges girls face and celebrate their resilience and achievements. NAWOJ Kaduna’s message adds to the growing chorus of voices pushing for systemic change and inclusive opportunities for girls across Nigeria.
