In a statement released today, the association emphasized the critical need to fortify prevention, care, and support systems while tackling persistent barriers to progress.
Comrade Sahura Jibril Maidoki, Chairperson of NAWOJ Kaduna, underscored the pivotal responsibility of the media in shaping public understanding and action. “The media plays a vital role in disseminating accurate health information, encouraging regular testing, and fostering compassionate attitudes towards people living with HIV,” she stated. “We must use our platforms to combat stigma and spread life-saving knowledge.”
Echoing this sentiment, the Secretary, Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, called for deepened multi-sectoral collaboration. “Sustained progress demands unwavering partnership among government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society, and the media,” Abdullahi said. She reaffirmed the association’s dedication to “amplifying messages that empower women, protect our youth, and promote inclusive access to health services for all.”
The NAWOJ Kaduna statement urged all stakeholders and the general public to intensify awareness campaigns, support individuals and communities affected by the virus, and staunchly uphold the dignity and rights of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Marking the day, the association presented a direct appeal to the public: “This World AIDS Day, we encourage everyone to get tested, share accurate information, and contribute to building a more resilient and inclusive HIV response.”
The statement concluded with a message of collective resolve, asserting, “Together, we can overcome disrupt,,,d transform the fight against HIV/AIDS.”
