Honourable Sani Musa Danja, the Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Sport Development, has officially marked one year and nine days in his role, highlighting a transformative period of grassroots empowerment and social reform since his appointment on January 6.
Since assuming office, the ministry has focused on moving away from temporary financial handouts toward sustainable skill acquisition for the state's most vulnerable populations.
A cornerstone of the past year’s achievements amongst others was the successful training of over 3,000 youths across various vocational sectors. Notably, this figure includes 500 individuals with special abilities, a demographic Danja emphasized as a priority for the Governor Yusuf administration to ensure they are not neglected or reduced to begging.
The ministry, according to Honourable Sani Danja has transitioned from providing small, one-time cash gifts to teaching practical trades that foster independence, such as tailoring, sewing, poultry, and fish farming. Danja remarked that it is better to teach them a craft so that they can eventually start their own businesses or even employ others.
Beyond vocational training, the office has taken a proactive stance on the state's drug abuse challenges. Danja detailed a personalized approach where he engaged directly with youths involved in drug-related activities, bringing them into his office to restore their sense of value and potential.
Many of these individuals, including university dropouts and talented youths who felt neglected by society, underwent multi-day training sessions and were equipped with the necessary tools to launch their own businesses. According to Danja, the program has created a positive cycle, with rehabilitated youths now encouraging their peers to leave the streets.
The Adviser also addressed broader social issues, linking crime and instability to a desperate "get-rich-quick" culture. Through various symposiums, the ministry is working to shift the youth mindset from pursuing millionaire status to building a lasting legacy.
Danja stressed that the administration's goal is to foster a generation of youths who are their "brother’s keeper", prioritizing community contribution over the mere pursuit of wealth.
