KANO — The Kano State Government has extended its gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum for their substantial financial interventions following the devastating fire at the popular Singer Market.
In a statement released Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, confirmed that the Federal Government has committed N5 billion to aid recovery efforts, while APC governors collectively pledged an additional N3 billion.
The N8 billion total windfall is aimed at stabilizing the livelihoods of hundreds of traders whose goods and shops were razed in the recent inferno. Commissioner Waiya described the President’s contribution as a testament to his "commitment to the welfare of Nigerians" during times of national distress.
"The magnitude of loss recorded at the market deeply affected us all, and this generous donation will go a long way in cushioning the suffering of the victims," the statement read.
Despite the political landscape, the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration signaled strong appreciation for the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF). Waiya noted that their N3 billion donation reflected a "true spirit of cooperative governance and national unity."
To ensure the funds reach the intended victims, the state government has pledged a strict framework for disbursement. Key highlights of the government's next steps include:
