A renewed push for unity, accountability and improved welfare of members has taken centre stage with the swearing-in of a new executive of the Association of Zamfara State Indigenes Residing in Kaduna State.
Ten newly elected executive members were inaugurated to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years at a ceremony held at Arewa House, Kaduna. Barrister Kabir Ibrahim administered the oath of office, while the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Attahiru Abdullahi, Director of Polytechnic Advancement and Linkages, Kaduna Polytechnic, supervised the issuance of certificates of return to the successful candidates.
In her remarks, a member of the electoral committee, Hajiya Aishatu Maradun, paid glowing tribute to the founding leaders of the association, describing them as foresighted individuals whose sacrifices laid a solid foundation for the growth, acceptance and increasing membership of the body, even as some of them did not live to witness its present strength.
Delivering a keynote address, the guest speaker, Dr. Sani, Dean of the College of Environmental Studies, Kaduna Polytechnic, urged the new leadership to operate an open-door policy and make the socio-economic wellbeing of members a top priority.
He emphasized the need to focus on skills acquisition, education and empowerment programmes, while demonstrating honesty, transparency and fairness in leadership.
Also speaking, former Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Council, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, advised the executives to develop a comprehensive database of Zamfara State indigenes living in Kaduna State and to draft a standardized constitution to guide the association’s operations.
The event drew members of the association, community leaders and stakeholders, who expressed confidence that the new executive would consolidate unity and promote the collective interests of Zamfara State indigenes residing in Kaduna State.
