In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has concluded a strategic grassroots tour across seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State, securing strong endorsements from party executives and key stakeholders.
The multi-day tour covered Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Birnin Gwari LGAs. During the visits, the outspoken rights activist engaged extensively with ward and local government party officials, traditional and community leaders, youth groups, and women’s associations.
At each stop, Sani held consultative meetings with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), focusing on strategies to strengthen party structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
While addressing stakeholders, he publicly declared support for the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Stakeholders who spoke with journalists described the engagements as timely efforts to rebuild trust, deepen unity within the party, and promote an inclusive governance agenda.
Across the seven LGAs, party leaders passed votes of confidence in Sani, citing his track record in legislative advocacy, constituency development, and human rights activism.
In Igabi LGA, the party chairman described him as “a bridge between the people and government,” praising his accessibility and responsiveness to national issues. Similarly, stakeholders in Chikun pledged strong mobilisation efforts in his support, commending his role in defending democratic values and recalling his intervention during disputes surrounding the proposed demolition of the Gbagi-Villa community under former governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In Birnin Gwari, community leaders highlighted his contributions to education and healthcare, as well as his consistent advocacy on insecurity. In Kajuru, stakeholders acknowledged his vocal role during periods of heightened violence, noting his efforts in amplifying the concerns of affected communities.
Women’s groups also expressed solidarity, pointing to empowerment initiatives introduced during his tenure and his sustained advocacy for social justice and inclusion.
Speaking during the engagements, Sani reiterated his commitment to strengthening party cohesion and addressing pressing challenges such as insecurity, unemployment, and infrastructural deficits.
“We must rebuild our political structures from the grassroots. The strength of any democracy lies in its people. I am here to listen, learn, and work with you for a better future,” he said.
He further stressed the need for collective action to tackle insecurity, particularly in rural communities, while advocating policies aimed at expanding economic opportunities for young people.
Observers note that the tour reflects a calculated move to reconnect with grassroots supporters and reassert political relevance in Kaduna’s evolving landscape. Given the state’s competitive political environment, endorsements at the local government level remain key indicators of electoral strength.
With the scale of mobilisation and support recorded during the tour, there are growing indications of renewed momentum around Sani’s potential return to the Senate.
