To strengthen productivity and quality service delivery in the health sector, Kaduna state has been called upon to employ more Nurses.
The chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Kaduna chapter, Comrade Nurse Ishaku Yakubu made the plea in a chat with newsmen in his office in Kaduna.
Nurse Ishaku explained the brain drain among nurses and other health professionals due to poor salary for in the state has continued to create a shortage of nurses and midwives personnel in the state.
He said as health workers are the closest to people in various hospitals there is a need for government to review upward the salary as they save a life.
The NANNM Chairman explained that “about four of our nurse workers had left to a neighboring state where they pay higher than Kaduna State, others left the shores of this country”.
He called on the state government to redouble its effort in its fight against insecurity in the state as it also affects the healthcare sector personnel, particularly, those serving in rural areas of the state.
Comrade Yakubu also warned health workers to stop harassing or tongue lashing their patients and if reported the union will take necessary action to discipline that person found wanting.
He called on the public to always keep clean their environment and avoid unnecessary storage of water in their compound.
He thanked the donor agencies for their effort towards providing Intervention for health prevention, like the provision of mosquito nets to the people of Kaduna state free of charge.
