People in Kaduna State have been implored to remain peaceful and adopt nonviolent mechanisms to resolve all disputes.
The Executive Vice Chairman, Kaduna State Peace Commission, Dr. Saleh B. Momale asserted this during a press conference on Peaceful and Harmonious Coexistence held at the Commission Office, Kaduna.
He said that KAPECOM in collaboration with the sister Ministry, Department, and Agency, (MDAs) in the state has faced head-on the various threats to peaceful Coexistence among the diverse Communities.
“In this pursuit, there were several interventions to resolve the conflicts in parts of Zango Kataf, Kauru, Kaura Jema’a, and Kajuru Local Government Areas”, he explained.
Dr. Momale noted that with the campaigns towards the 2023 elections sets in and the National Population and Housing Census this year, “I appeal to the citizens of Kaduna State to ensure that the processes are free from all forms of intimidation and violent actions”.
While appreciating the support of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Ministry of Sports Development, and the State Emergency Management Agency, among others, KAPECOM in the same breath, acknowledged the technical and financial support of international partners.
The KAPECOM Vice Chairman noted that “for sustainable peace, the periodic conflicts in some Communities of Sanga, Jema’a, Kauru, Kajuru, and Igabi local government Areas are being addressed through dialogue and engagement with key community gatekeepers.
He maintained that the Early Warning, Early Response system set up in the commission has helped in identifying the threats to peace even though not optimally utilized, while the active collaboration between the commission and Security agencies, especially the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps has resulted in effective prevention of violent conflicts, he added.
