In its efforts to eliminate street begging and empower youths, Sabon gari local government council has trained and empowered about thirty-three on Agency Banking to become self-employed.
The chairman of the local government council, Engineer Usman Ibrahim Muhammad stated this at the closing ceremony of the three days of training at the local government secretariat.
He said the beneficiaries were selected from Tsangaya schools in the 11 wards of the local government.
On his part, the Coordinator of the program, Malam Ibrahim Musa Aliyu said the Almajiris were trained on how to operate the Point of Sales machines, also known as POS, process e-naira, National Identity cards, and Bank Verification Number enrollment.
Malam Ibrahim Musa commended the local government council for the initiative, noting that such projects are important to the economy.
The beneficiaries who after the training were awarded certificates and startups of POS machines and cash tokens to kick start their business expressed gratitude and promised to work hard to become self-reliant.
In an interview, some of the Tsangaya school teachers explained that this empowerment would go a long way in improving the lives of the beneficiaries.
