The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, on Monday, at the Football Field of Federal University, Lafia, declared open the 9th edition of the Sardauna Gamji Northern Veterans’ Football tournament.

Represented by the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, the Governor commended organizers of the annual football competition for using the platform to keep fit, promote social cohesion and fostering development in myriads of ways within the region and beyond.

While wishing the participants success throughout the duration of the tournament, the Governor emphasized that his administration would continue to accord priority to sports, development of infrastructure and supporting the growth of the State’s athletes and coaches to put them at par with their counterparts around the world.

In the opening match played on Tuesday evening, host State, Nasarawa All Stars pipped Sokoto State All Stars by a lone goal, with more matches to be played in the competition that will run from 7th to 12th November, 2022, featuring nineteen Northern States and F.C.T, Abuja.

Officials of the Sardauna Gamji Northern Veterans’ Football Competition headed by Mr. Abayomi George, together with the Chairman, Nasarawa State Football Association, Alhaji Alkali Mohammed, joined the Governor to herald the official kick-off of the Competition.
