2023 Election Results: Peace Network warns Against Fake News On Social Media




The Peace Network has raised alarm over consequences of fake news by quacks and unprofessional bloggers on social media platforms.


As the collation of presidential election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), continues, the Network of Peace Journalists on the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP), program with coordination from Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC), Kaduna, Nigeria, further warned against the spread of fake and unconfirmed news information on the social media.


The network urged the citizens on the need to be vigilant and caution over such information on facebook, twitters, instagram, WhatsApp, among many others.


In a signed statement made available by the team leader of the group Ibrahima Yakubu,  called on all patriotic citizens to only monitor and get informed on credible media organizations.


According to him during electioneering season like this, fake news users usually dominate the social media platforms, hence the need to sensitize the general public on dangers associated with fake information amidst INEC collation and declaration of results.


He further commended patriotic Nigerian for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during the presidential and National Assembly elections in across the country. 


He commended the Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ) for opening-up situation room during and after the elections.
