The Commissioner Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu has charged operators of Orphanages and Homes not to keep babies or children in the homes but to ensure that suitable families are found for them where they would be shown love, care, and attention.
The Commissioner made the remarks when she received in her office the Association of Orphanages and Homes in Nigeria (ASOHON) on a courtesy visit.
The Commissioner assured the members that she would work harmoniously with them and called on the members to be law-abiding.
She however warned operators of the various homes that she would not hesitate to sanction any care-giver who refused to follow the child adoption law of the state.
Earlier in a remark, the Chairman of the Association, Ahmed Hassan congratulated the Commissioner and promised to work with her by giving her all necessary cooperation for the success of her tenure.
In the same vein, the Human Service Commissioner also received on courtesy call her Alma Mater from Challenge International School, Kaduna.
Hajiya Rabi who was visibly elated with the visit of her classmates thanked them for coming and said the visit meant a lot to her.
She said the door to her office is always open for advice that will make the Ministry and State move forward.
Speaking during the visit, Sadiq Rabiu who spoke on behalf of the team, said the visit was to felicitate with the Commissioner and pray that God would help her carry out this assignment successfully.
He described the appointment as divine, noting that she has always been an advocate who has demonstrated solidarity and support to other people, especially orphans, widows, people going through abusive marriages, rape victims, and other forms of abuse.
Sadiq appreciated the warm reception accorded to them by the Commissioner and her staff and said they were proud of her.
