Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has said that his administration would run a transparent, accountable and open government for the good of Plateau state.

Mutfwang gave the assurances while receiving the Coalition for Public Accountability in Plateau (COPAP) at the Old Government House Rayfield in Jos on Tuesday.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs Josephine Piyo, stated that transparent and accountable public procurement processes is one of his administration’s topmost priorities.

Mutfwang said that the government would reform policies and practices in procurement towards providing overall direction for efficiency and effectiveness in the award of contracts.

He stated that the state would operate an open bidding process to allow for a more competitive bidding process, which can result in lower prices for projects, help to ensure that the best possible contractor is selected for the job and provide greater transparency and accountability throughout the contracting process.

The governor also promised to ensure timely publication of comprehensive procurement of data to foster citizen engagement, to promote accountability and deter corrupt practices.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Patricia Lar, appealed to government to review the Public Procurement Law (2018) and conduct a comprehensive review by incorporating provisions that promote open contracting, e-procurement, gender equality, social inclusion and others.

Lar said that strengthening the Plateau state Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP) would transform it into a robust and independent institution capable of ensuring compliance with procurement regulations and maintaining high quality standards.

She said implementing open contracting and reforming procurement processes in Plateau state would enhance credibility and trust, attract foreign investments, access international grants, improve service delivery and promote global recognition.

The governor also received the Association of Social Workers, led by Mrs Martha Kunyam, promising to collaborate with social workers in the state to enhance the selfless service they render to the less privileged in the state.
