Ikara Local Government Council has flagged off the distribution of Rice as palliative to vulnerable persons in the area to alleviate the negative impact of the removal of fuel subsidies in the country.
Flagging off the distribution of the palliatives in Ikara the Chairman of the council Dr. Ibrahim Salihu Sadiq, said the packages would cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.
The Chairman appreciated Federal and State governments for responding to the feelings of people, stressing that the gesture would complement the administration’s economic empowerment initiatives which according to him lifted several families out of poverty.
He said the removal of subsidy on fuel led to a hike in prices of commodities, cost of transportation, and other services, adding that the development translated into an increase in the cost of living with more people pushed into the poverty level.
Dr. Salihu Sadiq said even before the federal government intervention program, the state government had been consistent in assisting the people of the state through various humanitarian interventions.
Responding some of the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Federal and state governments for providing the commodity to them.
In another development, the Chairman, of Ikara Local Government has Commissioned health Facilities in Gidan Gabas and Jan Marmara in Saulawa ward, as well as providing an ambulance for transporting patients to Primary Health Care centers in the local government.
Similarly, the council chairman has also purchased and distributed two vehicles to security agencies for prompt response to emergency security situations.
Dr Ibrahim Salihu Sadiq said that the procurement of the vehicles is a testimony of the council's concern about the security situation in the area.
According to him, armed robbery, cattle rustling, kidnapping, banditry, insurgency, and farmers and herders clashes have continued to threaten the peace of the nation hence all hands should be on deck to tackle the menace.
The chairman stressed that "security problem is a collective responsibility of all of us, therefore, citizens should cooperate with the security agencies and report any suspicious activities and movements to security agents for prompt actions instead of taking laws into their hands or being complacent".
The two Golf cars were given to the police and Kadvis to improve their operations in the local government.
Responding, the security Agencies, expressed appreciation to the chairman for the gesture, adding that the operational vehicles will ease the movements of security operatives and ensure prompt response to emergencies.
