MEET THE NEW PERMANENT SECRETARY MINISTRY OF HEALTH KADUNA STATE

Until her appointment, the Permanent Secretary in the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, vide a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Uba Sani, Muhammed Lawal Shehu on 12th September 2023, and the sworn-in into office by His Excellency Uba Sani at the Government House, Kaduna, Dr. Aisha Abubakar Sadiq was the Director Public Health in the Ministry.

Dr. Aisha Abubakar has over 16 years of progressive professional experience in clinical medicine, female reproductive health, multidisciplinary research, and Field Epidemiology.

She has coordinated Outbreak and emergency response to various diseases, and trained healthcare workers and postgraduate residents in Disease Surveillance and Response and Data Management. “Extensive training in fertility medicine has aided her practice of reproductive health care.

“Membership of the state’s medical team during the holy pilgrimage (hajj 2007, 2010) allowed active participation in preventive medical practice with an international team of health-care providers”.

She qualified as an NSTOP Field Officer during her training in Clinical epidemiology (CDC/NFELTP) and has partnered with the World Health Organization on Polio eradication efforts in various states. These include Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, and the Federal Capital Territory; Abuja.

The new Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health served as a resident with the National TB and Leprosy Control Program’s Monitoring and Evaluation Unit for 2 years (NTBLCP), with field responsibilities as a NFELTP resident including assistance with the early warning alert and response network (EWARN) of the Nigerian Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

EDUCATION BACKGROUND


Dr. Aisha Abubakar Sadiq has a Ph.D. in Environmental/Health Engineering with a specialty in Air Pollution and Human Health, a Master’s degree in Field Epidemiology from the NFELTP/US CDC (Cohort 4), with Post Graduate Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research (SRHR) and another Post-Graduate Certificates in various fields of clinical medicine.

These are accompanied by Clinical training in fertility medicine and a diploma in Computer studies.

However, her first degree was a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree (M.B.B.S), and had served as a Field supervisor to residents of the NFELTP Nigeria from 2016 to 2019 and participated as a visiting lecturer (Non-communicable diseases) to NFELTP residents.

Dr. Aisha Abubakar also worked as an abstract reviewer and mentor for residents during the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) conference and the Nigerian Conference of Applied and Field Epidemiology.

BELOW ARE OTHER EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS:

RESEARCH (SRHR): Geneva foundation for medical education and research, Switzerland. This is a 7-month course in sexual and reproductive health research.

POST-GRADUATE CERTIFICATES IN CLINICAL MEDICINE (February-August, 2009): HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL, U.S.A: in assessment and treatment of depression in a primary care setting, hypertension: evidence-based treatment and clinical challenges, lifestyle medicine for stress management, managing type 2 diabetes: a clinical challenge, addiction: information and resources for dealing with addictive behavior.

DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER PROFICIENCY DIGITAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS, KADUNA: This Diploma program entails training in various computer programs and basic knowledge of hardware maintenance.

CERTIFICATE IN LEADERSHIP/CROSS-CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING: Global Youth Village/ World Wildlife Foundation and United Nations
POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN HEALTH (LMIH) WITH UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, SEATTLE U.S.A: An online Post Graduate Certificate Course that trains health workers for leadership and management positions as part of Global Health improvement.

COURSES ATTENDED:

INTRODUCTION TO PHEOC OPERATIONS AND Management Fundamentals, November 13th- 17th 2017: One week of Training on EOC Operations and Management.
ONE HEALTH SME WORKING GROUP FOR NIGERIA, September 2017, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja: Workshop for SME to develop one health terminologies, management protocols and Response Plans to relevant diseases.

NON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (NCD) WORKSHOP, CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL, ATLANTA U.S.A: One-week intensive training on Road Traffic Injury, Tobacco, and Cancer for Grant awardees from Global Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programmes.

GENEVA FOUNDATION FOR MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (GFMER) 2014-Training Course in Sexual and Reproductive Health Research: This is a 7-month intensive online training with interactive modules on clinical and research aspects of sexual and reproductive health.

Dr. Aisha Abubakar Sadiq was born in the late seventies in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
