MHWUN Denies Kaduna Health Workers Protest Over Salary Arrears

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Kaduna State Council, has rejected a report alleging that health workers in the state staged a protest over three months of unpaid salaries.

The union described the report as false, saying it was neither consulted nor involved in the alleged protest.

MHWUN was reacting to a report published by Sahara Reporters on October 7, 2026, titled, “Kaduna Health Workers Protest Against Three-Month Unpaid Salary Arrears As New Recruits Lament.”

In a statement, the union said the report did not represent its position, adding that none of the newly recruited health workers authorised or endorsed the publication.

According to the council, the affected workers have distanced themselves from the report and said they did not mandate anyone to take their grievances to social media or the news organisation.

The union, however, acknowledged that some workers are still awaiting their salaries.

It said most of the newly recruited health personnel have been paid, while a small number, particularly those whose appointments were made later, are still awaiting payment.

MHWUN said the Kaduna State Government is working to resolve the outstanding cases.

The union urged affected workers to remain calm and channel any legitimate complaints through established administrative and labour procedures.

It also commended the administration of Governor Uba Sani for its investments in the health sector, including the recruitment of additional personnel, improvement of healthcare infrastructure, provision of medical equipment and ambulances, revitalisation of primary healthcare centres, workers’ welfare initiatives, implementation of the CONHESS salary structure and clearance of promotion backlogs.

The union further urged the media and members of the public to verify information before attributing protests, statements or grievances to health workers.

MHWUN Denies Kaduna Health Workers Protest Over Salary Arrears

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Kaduna State Council, has dismissed a report claiming that health workers in the state protested over three months of unpaid salaries, describing the publication as inaccurate and unauthorised.

The union said it was not consulted over the report published by Sahara Reporters on October 7, 2026, under the headline, “Kaduna Health Workers Protest Against Three-Month Unpaid Salary Arrears As New Recruits Lament.”

In a statement, MHWUN said the report did not reflect the position of the union and that none of the newly recruited workers authorised the publication.

The council said the affected recruits had also disassociated themselves from the report, stressing that they did not mandate anyone to present their concerns to the media or through social media platforms.

While acknowledging that some newly recruited workers are yet to receive their salaries, the union said the majority have already been paid. It explained that those still awaiting payment were largely workers whose appointments were made at a later stage.

MHWUN said the state government was addressing the remaining cases and urged affected workers to remain patient while using established administrative and labour channels to resolve any outstanding issues.

The union also commended Governor Uba Sani’s administration for what it described as significant investments in the health sector, including recruitment of health personnel, improved infrastructure, medical equipment and ambulances, revitalisation of primary healthcare centres, workers’ welfare, implementation of the CONHESS salary structure and clearance of promotion backlogs.

MHWUN called on journalists and members of the public to verify claims before attributing protests or statements to health workers, stressing the importance of accurate and responsible reporting.
