Niger State Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Ibrahim Mami Ijah, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Musa Bawa Bosso have pledged to support the fight against health misinformation in the state.
The Commissioners made the pledge when they separately received representatives of the Niger State Health Misinformation Management Fellowship 2023, of the Nigeria Health Watch (NHW), led by the state liaison officer, Mohammed Yahaya Gayya, who was on an advocacy visit, recently.
The team first visited the state Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Mami Ijah where the leader of the delegation and some members of the team, including Abubakar Hassan of Newsline Newspaper and Daniel Atori of the New Telegraph Newspaper briefed the Commissioner on the activities of the fellowship and the fellowship had been doing so far to sensitize the public on health misinformation and its dangers to the public health.
The Commissioner appreciated the visit and promised to support the cause of curbing health misinformation in the state, saying it was a fight that requires the support of all and sundry.
He also informed the team that the door of his office is always open to members of the fellowship and also promised to attend the graduation ceremony of members of the fellowship coming up early next month.
Similarly, at the office of the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, the Commissioner, Hon. Bawa Bosso after taking the brief from the team commended Nigeria Health Watch (NHW) and its fellowship members for venturing into sensitizing the public on issues of health misinformation.
He described the move as a good cause, saying whatever one does in life he must be healthy before he can do it. "You must be healthy to be able to be productive in life," he added.
Hon. Bawa Bosso admitted that misinformation kills more than diseases and the more people get accurate information about health issues the better for them and society in general.
"You are fighting a good cause and we have to support you on this crusade. I assure you that as leader of the people I will seize every opportunity to enlighten the people to seek health information from the professional health workers," said Hon. Bawa Bosso.
He urged the team to continue with the work they are doing, saying people need this sensitization to be able to stay alive, promising to support the cause. by throwing his door open for NHW and health misinformation management fellowship members.
