Disturbed by the alarming mortality rates, with approximately four out of five cases resulting in death, from cancer, Her Excellency, Wife of Kaduna State Governor, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani decided to establish the Cancer Patients Support Initiative to help cancer patients in Kaduna State.
As part of activities to support cancer patients, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani visited some cancer patients at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna.
"We are here to encourage and sympathize with you and to let you know that I am aware cancer is an unwanted disease and people term it as a terminal disease, but I am here to raise your hope and know that cancer is never a dead sentence".
"I want to encourage you to keep hope alive and to tell you that there are many people who are survivors."
Speaking on behalf of the Kaduna State First Lady, Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu gave an overview of the governor's wife's visit to the patients at Barau Dikko.

Hajiya Rabi explained that the governor's wife's initiative was designed to assist cancer patients with treatment, and financial assistance as well as creating awareness on the danger of Cancer.
"We are with the first lady of Kaduna State, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani to give support, encouragement, and assistance to people with cancer disease, here today".
The commissioner said so far, over 20 million naira has been expended to support the vulnerable women with cancer in the state.
Earlier in a welcome remark, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Tabbari who was represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Shuaibu Musa appealed for her excellency's support in enhancing and completing cancer facilities to make Kaduna State a model of compassionate breast cancer care.
"Breast and cervical cancers are formidable adversaries with high prevalence and significant impact on maternal mortality in Kaduna State".
"Her Excellency's initiative provides hope and support to countless individuals affected by breast and cervical cancers".
He emphasized the need for expanding the oncology clinic to address the multifaceted challenges in cancer care, from early detection to treatment and supportive care.
In a vote of thanks, the commissioner of Health, Umma Kalthume Ahmad commended the efforts of Her Excellency, Hajia Hafsat Uba Sani in reaching out to cancer patients in the state.
She said Kaduna State will soon have a cancer center which will be located at the 300-bed hospital in Millennium City.
The Commissioner added that the center has reached 80% completion and some of the equipment for the center has arrived.
The governor's wife, Hafsat Uba Sani visited some of the bed-ridden cancer patients after an interaction with many in the hospital.
Some of the patients who received cash assistance during the interaction visit by Her Excellency thanked her for the kind gesture.
