Golf 2023: FirstBank Maintains Landmark Sponsorship With Kaduna Amateur Tournament - News Panorama

The 18-hole golf course of Kaduna Golf Club is set to host about 160 Amateur Golfers who are battle-ready for the top prize of a one-day tournament sponsored by FirstBank Nigeria.

That much was confirmed at a press conference to Herald the championship held Friday, 1st December 2023 at the Club House in Kaduna.

In a remark, Dr Adesola Adeduntan, Chief Executive Officer, said the FirstBank's long-standing sponsorship of golf Championships for almost 63 years, demonstrates the bank's commitment to sports in its entirety.

"For almost 130 years of FirstBank existence, we have been a driving force in the promotion of sports in Nigeria and across the Banks subsidiaries. This has been accentuated by our legacy sponsorships of tournaments such as the Kaduna Polo tournament (currently in its 103rd year of sponsorship), Golf, Tennis, Football, and Basketball, amongst others".

"FirstBank's partnership and long-standing sponsorship of golf through the FirstBank Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for almost 63 years is, therefore one of the ways by which we demonstrate our commitment to building a legacy not only for golf and golfers but sports in its entirety".

Represented by the Group Executive, Retail Banking North, Kaduna, Shehu Aliyu, Dr Adesola described the golf course as a better place to build, deepen, and strengthen relationships.

 According to him, "The sponsorship of this tournament is to foster networking and healthy competition among golfers and, additionally, to subsequently provide a steady platform for the golfers in this region to attain professional success. The tournament is also an opportunity to showcase the local golfing talent".

"Sponsorship of this Tournament falls under the First@sports initiative through which the Bank demonstrates its unwavering commitment to the development of sporting talents in Nigeria and, indeed, globally, he stressed.

"We are glad about this new partnership with Kaduna Golf Club, and we hope that this is just the beginning of many more collaborations to further promote the sport. We are confident that this tournament will be a great success and will help to inspire many golfers in the region".

Earlier, the tournament Manager who is the Vice Captain of the Kaduna Golf Club, Honourable Nazifi Muhammed explained that FirstBank has been a major contributing factor to sports development in Nigeria.

"Every golfer knows what it means to nurture and develop the youth and professionals in Nigeria.

We made an effort and draw the attention of FirstBank to Kaduna to see the potential golfers we have in Kaduna. 

Hon. Nazifi said about one hundred and fifty-seven golfers for the event's different categories, however, due to paucity of funds the Initial plan to accommodate professionals to play at the tournament did not come to fruition.
