Ministry of Sports to Partner with Military for Athlete Development

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has announced plans to collaborate with military and para-military institutions to cultivate high-caliber athletes capable of attaining international acclaim for Nigeria.

Senator Enoh made this statement during his speech at the inaugural Military and Para-Military Judo Championship held in Abuja on February 14th.

Expressing apprehension about the dwindling development of sports talent within military and para-military establishments, the minister stressed the urgency of revitalizing this tradition.

He commended the Nigeria Judo Federation for leading the Military and Para-Military Judo Championship and urged other sports federations to emulate this initiative by forming alliances with military and para-military organizations to bolster Nigeria's standing on the global sports platform.

Senator Enoh pledged enduring support for the progression of various sports in the country, pointing to the potential reinstatement of Judo as a Category A sport as a key indicator of his tenure's success.

Dr. Musa Oshodi, President of the Nigerian Judo Federation, expressed appreciation to the minister for endorsing their event, highlighting his commitment to sports development.

He emphasized that the collaboration between the federation and the military aims to restore Judo to its rightful prominence in Nigeria.
