Kaduna, Northern Nigeria - The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) orchestrated a pivotal one-day conference in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, uniting stakeholders involved in peace-building across the West African region to address the ongoing conflicts between herders and farmers.
Led by Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, the National President of the Association, the conference's primary objective was to foster dialogue and bridge the existing gap between herders and farmers, recognizing the strained relationships that have emerged in recent times.
Dr. Abdullahi emphasized the significance of initiating conversations not only between herders and farmers but also in fostering understanding between Nomadic Pastoralists and other communities nationwide.
The conference critically examined various policies and programs implemented by the current administration, including the Fulaku initiative, seeking valuable feedback and insights from the intended beneficiaries of these initiatives.
Active discussions during the proceedings centered around the Fulaku Initiative, shedding light on its impact and potential areas for improvement.
In a remarkable display of inclusivity, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, a Christian cleric, delivered a speech on peace and unity, highlighting their critical role in Africa. Pastor Buru underscored the indispensability of peace as a vital component for sustainable growth and development in any nation.
Recognized as the United Nations World International Interfaith Week and Harmony winner in 2022 by King Abdullah of Jordan, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru specifically called upon the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to employ diplomatic means in resolving the current situation.
The conference drew participants from various Fulani groups across African countries, including Mali and Niger Republic. The presence of prominent figures such as the National President of the Network of Peace Journalists, Comrade Ibrahima Yakubu, along with Islamic scholars and traditional titleholders, further emphasized the significance of this collaborative effort to address herders-farmers conflicts.
