Youth Cafe Innovation Hub Collaborates with Agencies to Combat Drug Abuse in Kaduna State

Kaduna, February 28, 2024 — The Youth Cafe Innovation Hub at Kaduna State University has taken a significant step in the fight against drug abuse among adolescents and young people. In partnership with the Center for Study and Resolution of Domestic Violence and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Zonal Command Headquarters (Zone F), the hub launched the Drug Education and Peer Support Club (DEPS) in secondary schools across the state.

The DEPS clubs have a clear mission: to educate and empower adolescents and young individuals on the dangers of drug abuse. By equipping them with effective strategies to resist peer pressure, the clubs aim to foster a drug-free lifestyle. The launch event emphasized the importance of early education and community support in preventing drug abuse among the youth.

ABDI Bilques Yusuf, the Diplomatic Fellow and Coordinator of the Innovation Hub, expressed her commitment to this cause. She stated, "Our goal is to reach every school in the state, ensuring that drug abuse is prevented among adolescents and young persons. To achieve this, we need a supportive and inclusive school community approach."



Mrs. Rahina Abubakar Wada, the Team Lead of Youth Cafe Kaduna State University, echoed this sentiment. She emphasized that the hub is dedicated to empowering young individuals in all aspects of life, contributing to the state's overall development.

The launch of DEPS marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing battle against drug abuse, reinforcing the importance of education, awareness, and community involvement. Together, these efforts pave the way for a healthier and brighter future for Kaduna State's youth. 

The representative of the NDLEA Zonal command Headquarters Zone F Mr. ALIYU MOHAMMED BABA who delivered the Keynote at the launch also opined that the Zone F zonal command Headquarters Kaduna State is working tirelessly to ensure activities and collaboration with key stakeholders in the state are ongoing to ensure the fight against drug abuse take an inclusive face towards reduction and eventual Eradication of drug abuse among Adolescent and young persons in the state.
