SWAN Kano State Chapter Demands Respect After Clash with Kano Pillars FC's Technical Adviser

Zakari Haruna - Kaduna

On March 13th, 2024, the Kano State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) announced an indefinite halt to all communications with the Technical Crew of Kano Pillars FC. This action follows an incident at Sani Abacha Stadium during the post-match press conference on match day 25, where Kano Pillars faced Rangers International.

The Secretary of SWAN's Kano State Chapter, Muhammad Nur Tijjani, reported that the Technical Adviser of Kano Pillars FC insulted SWAN members, including the National Ex-Officio of the Northwest region and three executive members. The altercation arose from a question about a lineup change from the team's previous game against Rivers United.

SWAN has denounced the Technical Adviser's behavior as disrespectful and has suspended interactions with the Technical Crew pending a satisfactory resolution. The association emphasizes the importance of respectful, professional interactions between sports clubs and the media for the development of sports journalism and the industry at large.

The Kano State Chapter of SWAN upholds integrity, professionalism, and respect as core values and looks forward to a swift and harmonious resolution that will foster a cooperative relationship between the media and sports entities.
