Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, serving as the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kano State, has been recognized with the esteemed Most Outstanding Spokesperson Award by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information.
Mr. Dawakin Tofa earned this prestigious accolade for his significant contributions in projecting the positive image of the Kano State Governor and his commendable achievements, along with effectively representing the only NNPP ruling state in Nigeria.
Acknowledged by the Jury Sub-Committee of the National Spokespersons Awards, established jointly by the NIPR and the ministry, Sunusi emerged as the deserving recipient of the 2024 Spokesperson of the Executive Arm Category. This recognition places him among other spokespersons representing the executive arm of the government in Nigeria, including those to the President, Vice President, Ministers, and various Extra-ministerial Departments and Agencies.
The award ceremony, held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, showcased eleven categories of prestigious awards, following the inaugural National Spokespersons Summit 2024, which was inaugurated by Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima.
In the citation accompanying the award, Mr. Sunusi was lauded as a steadfast advocate of non-violent communication, recognized for his expansive network and adept delivery in effectively conveying objectives and framing engagements with clarity to his audience. His notable impact and effectiveness in managing perception and reputation were highly commended.
Having graduated with a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri, commonly referred to as Sabature, Sunusi further distinguished himself by obtaining three master's degrees from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Bayero University, and the Robert Kennedy College, Switzerland.
Upon the announcement of Sunusi as the award recipient, the audience erupted into thunderous applause, with attendees rushing to join him on the podium in celebration of his achievement as one of the youngest senior PR experts hailing from the northern region of the country.
In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Sunusi expressed profound gratitude to his principal and dedicated the prestigious award to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. Through his Facebook account, the 2024 Spokesperson of the year conveyed his excitement and appreciation for the warm reception from Governor Yusuf, acknowledging the opportunity to serve as his spokesperson over the past six years.
