Kano, Nigeria – The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has announced that its Full Council Meeting for the year 2024 will be held in the historic city of Kano from May 1st to 3rd. This significant event is expected to draw sports journalists from across the nation to one of the largest gatherings of sports writers in Nigeria.
The decision came after a formal bidding process initiated by the national leadership of SWAN, which invited state chapters to host the event. The Kano chapter, led by Comrade Zahradeen Saleh, expressed its eagerness to host the meeting and has since received the green light from the national secretariat.
In preparation for the event, the Kano chapter has established a Local Organizing Committee (LOC), chaired by Lurwanu Idris Malikawa with Abdulgafar Oladimeji serving as secretary.
The LOC is tasked with mobilizing resources and formulating strategies to ensure the successful execution of the sports media exercise.
The national secretariat has confirmed the proposed dates and has set in motion all necessary mechanisms to facilitate the meeting on the selected date. Members of SWAN are scheduled to arrive in Kano on May 1st, with the meeting itself taking place on May 2nd. The departure of all guests is planned for May 3rd.
The meeting is set to be graced by the current national leadership of SWAN, former presidents, and serving state chairmen and secretaries, making it a notable occasion for the exchange of ideas and strengthening of professional ties within the sports journalism community.
