In an inspiring move to empower the girl child, Projectsmile For Humanity Foundation, which has been instrumental in promoting the welfare of adolescent girls in the northern region, organized a commendable program dedicated to training underserved adolescent girls in health hygiene and ICT skills development.
The initiative which stands as a shining example of hope and progress for the girls from the metropolitan local government areas of Kaduna State was to mark International Women’s Day.
Mrs. Rabi Yanzah, serving as the personal assistant to Sakina Garba, the Special Adviser to the Kaduna state governor on Non-governmental Organizations, said the program’s emphasis on digital skills enlightenment and the global advancement of the girl child, especially in northern Nigeria, marks a significant step towards closing the educational and technological divide.
“We are delighted that the objective is to provide the young girls with vital knowledge and skills, preparing them for the challenges of the digital era.”
The impact of the training is profound, with Ms. Sakina describing it as “very impactful,” highlighting its potential to foster self-reliance and empowerment among the participants.
Sakina Garba, reinforcing the state’s commitment, has stressed that human capital development remains a cornerstone of Governor Uba Sani’s administration. “This initiative aligns with the government’s vision, demonstrating its dedication to nurturing the potential within every girl child.”
The program is designed not just to educate but to transform these young women into independent and confident members of society.
Speaking in an interview, Executive Director of Projectsmile For Humanity Foundation Miss Comfort Ojo, explained that the training program targets out-of-school adolescent girls from Igabi, Kaduna South, Kaduna North, and Chikun local government areas of Kaduna State.
According to Ojo, “This initiative aims to empower these girls with essential life skills, vocational training, and mentorship to break the cycle of poverty and gender inequality.”
She said the training will strengthen their entrepreneurial skills financial literacy, and reproductive health, enabling participants to become confident, self-reliant, and active contributors to their communities.
“By investing in these teenage girls, we are shaping a brighter future for generations to come,” The Executive Director added.
In a goodwill message, the Senior Special Adviser to the Kaduna Governor Uba Sani on stakeholders Relations, Honourable Bashir Bala Kankanba emphasized the importance of societal support for the girl child and vulnerable.
Addressing the beneficiaries of the digital skills program, he urged them to apply their new skills to enhance their well-being. Expressing his pride in contributing to such a significant initiative, Honourable Kankanba highlighted the project’s focus on women, traditionally confined to domestic roles.
He praised the Musa Mubaco Foundation for its unwavering commitment to the girls’ cause, noting the foundation’s two-decade legacy of aiding the underprivileged.
