The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has passed a vote of no confidence on the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, over allegations of economic sabotage and criminal activities within the Navy.
In a press statement signed by Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, National Coordinator of NDYC, the group expressed deep disheartenment and concern over recent reports implicating the Navy in crude oil theft, diversion of crude oil, and providing security escorts for crude oil thieves on Nigerian waterways.
The NDYC condemned the actions of the Navy under Vice Admiral Ogalla's command, stating that they compromise the security and integrity of the waterways and sabotage the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The group called for a thorough investigation into the allegations, including a recent criminal incident involving MT PRESTIGIOUS and MT MONTAGU on May 3, 2024. They demanded that those found culpable be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others and restore the integrity of the Navy.
The NDYC emphasized that the primary mandate of the Navy is to secure the waterways, protect maritime resources, and ensure the safety of all maritime activities. They urged swift and decisive action to rectify the egregious transgressions and promote lawful and sustainable maritime activities for the benefit of all Nigerians.
This development comes at a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges, and the NDYC believes that such activities exacerbate the suffering of the Nigerian people. The group's vote of no confidence in Vice Admiral Ogalla is a clear indication of their loss of faith in his ability to lead the Navy effectively.
