Nigerians Rally for Peace: Embracing Diversity on International Day of Living Together 2024"




As we commemorate the International Day of Living Together in Peace 2024, Nigerians are urged to reject all forms of discrimination, gender-based violence, and embrace peaceful coexistence.


The National President of the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, made this call to mark this year's celebration. He emphasized that living peacefully with one another is crucial for fostering progress and development in the country.


Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru highlighted that the 16th of May is recognized by the United Nations as the World International Day of Living Together in Peace and Harmony. Therefore, citizens worldwide should promote a culture of peace and religious tolerance.


He added that living together in peace entails accepting differences and possessing the ability to listen to, recognize, respect, and appreciate others, thereby living in a peaceful and united manner.


According to him, the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 72/130, declared the 16th of May as the International Day of Living Together in Peace. This day serves to mobilize the efforts of the international community regularly to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding, and solidarity.


The Day aims to uphold the desire to live and act together, united in differences and diversity, in order to build a sustainable world of peace, solidarity, and harmony. It encourages countries to further promote reconciliation to ensure peace and sustainable development by working with communities, faith leaders, and other relevant actors.


Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru mentioned that his organization will utilize the day to advocate to other stakeholders in peace-building to strengthen peace and unity. He plans to visit Muslim and Christian scholars, along with traditional title holders, to enhance good relationships among adherents of different faith-based organizations.


He also highlighted the significant opportunities provided by the United Nations for celebrating the day, including engaging all stakeholders in the community to contribute to peace in their area. The aim is to reinforce the defenses of peace in the minds of women and men through education, science, information, and culture.


He called on everyone to join hands in supporting peace and unity in our communities while offering prayers for our security personnel. Equally, he urged for prayers for peace and unity in the country.
