"Riyom Local Government Vows to End Open Defecation, Inaugurates Sanitation Task Group" - News Panorama

The Transition Committee Chairman of Riyom Local Government, Sati Shuwa, has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to promoting the use of toilets and good hygiene practices in every community across the council area. This commitment was made during the inauguration of the Local Task Group on Sanitation, held at the Local Government Secretariat, Riyom.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor for Riyom Local Government on Social Services, Noro Davou, the Chairman expressed appreciation for Governor Caleb Mutfwang's reintroduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation initiative, which aims to promote a healthy environment.

Sati Shuwa commended the leadership of the State Task Group on Sanitation, led by Chairman Philip Gompang, for inaugurating the Local Task Group for Riyom, emphasizing that the Governor's initiative is a comprehensive approach to eradicating open defecation across the State.

Philip Gompang explained that the Local Task Group's inauguration is part of the "Time is Now" administration's effort to end open defecation in all Plateau State communities. He emphasized the importance of Riyom, as the gateway to the State, having a clean and sustainable environment, urging the group members to work together to achieve this goal.

Magdalene Jibrin, Director of the Plateau Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (PROWASSA), stressed that ending open defecation is a collective responsibility, highlighting the significant challenges posed by lack of access to clean toilets and improper waste disposal to public health and well-being.

Yakubu Chaimang, Ambassador of Water Sanitation and Hygiene of Northern Nigeria, and Samson Dung, Director of Water and Sanitation of Riyom Local Government, pledged their support to the Council Chairman in addressing the fundamental issues affecting the safety and future of the Local Government regarding open defecation and sanitation.

The inauguration of the Local Task Group on Sanitation marks a commitment towards achieving a cleaner, healthier, and sustainable environment in Riyom Local Government.
