A one-day tennis clinic was held in Kaduna State to identify and develop young talents in the sport. The event, organized by the Kaduna State Tennis Association, aimed to provide a platform for local players to showcase their skills.
Speaking at the NNPC Tennis Court, Prof. Gugong, the state's Sports Commissioner, encouraged the young players to work hard and strive for excellence. "With hard work, the sky will be their limit," he said. "I'm impressed with their performance today, and I'm confident that our team will do well at the National Youth Games in Delta State."
Joel Adi, the organizer of the clinic and the Chairman Kaduna State Tennis Association in a phone interview explained that the event was designed to promote tennis in Kaduna State and build on the successes of previous tournaments.
"We want to encourage young players to be able to catch them young and embrace the game of tennis while we provide them a platform for to showcase their talents," he concluded.
The clinic was presided over by US-based Coach Ubale Muhammed, who taught the basics of tennis to over 120 participating young children and students. Coach Ubale emphasized the importance of developing the game at the grassroots level.
Joshua Ishaya, Kaduna State, APC Welfare Secretary, the honourary secretary of the state tennis association, described the one day clinic as interesting as the students and other players that participated gained from the trainers.
"Honestly, this would boost their morals, particularly those that came all the way from Kafanchan and got skills they do not have before."
"They were excited, they were happy and they got some skills they don't have before, so it is interesting."
The clinic was a success, with young players showcasing their skills and potential. The event was seen as a step forward in developing tennis in Kaduna State and identifying future talents.
