Ahead of the Kaduna NUJ Council election, leading contenders have joined forces, pledging to work together to ensure the election of Abdulgafar as the new Chairman of the council.
This strategic alliance aims to foster a unified front to rescue the Kaduna NUJ Council from the alleged high-handedness, lack of transparency, and accountability under the current leadership.
With this development, the coalition appears poised to triumph over the team led by Asma’u, which has been marred by allegations of misappropriation and certificate forgery. This gives the Abdulgafar-led team a conspicuous advantage heading into the election.
“We are offering ourselves to serve with transparency and accountability. We shall provide people-oriented leadership that amplifies the voices of our members,” said Abdulgafar, explaining his motivation for contesting the NUJ’s top position in Kaduna.
Zakari Haruna Isah, a frontline official of the Abdulgafar-Santos Campaign Council, added, “Many people have lost confidence in the current leadership ahead of the election. Just ask yourself, what can she offer that is different?”
The Rescue Team campaign is set to officially launch at the Kaduna NUJ Secretariat on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The NUJ Kaduna Chapter must not return to years of self-centered leadership that derailed the union’s activities and turned journalists into strangers in their own house. This is the time to reclaim our union, ensure accountability, and restore the much-needed integrity in the executive.
The elders of this great union must not allow the house to collapse on our heads. It’s time for a U-turn—to revive the NUJ Kaduna Council and restore its former glory as a leader in the region.
