The wife of Kaduna South Local Government Chairman, Hajiya Salma Abu Rayyan, has called on women and girls across the local government to break the silence on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and report any form of abuse they experience or witness. She made the call during a sensitization program held at Mainuna Gwarzo Secondary School as part of activities to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Addressing a gathering of women, girls, students, and persons with special needs, Hajiya Salma emphasized the importance of creating a safe space where survivors of GBV can voice their concerns without fear of stigma or retaliation. She reassured participants that her doors would always remain open to listen, support, and ensure that justice is served for victims of GBV.

“Gender-Based Violence is a serious issue that affects families and communities. I want to urge every woman and girl here to speak up if you are a victim or know someone who is. Staying silent only emboldens perpetrators. My doors are always open, and I will do everything within my power to support you and ensure that justice prevails,” she stated.

Hajiya Salma also commended the courage and dedication of the women, young girls, and individuals with special needs who attended the event despite their challenges. She noted that their presence underscored the importance of collective action in addressing the scourge of GBV in the community.

“Your participation here today shows your commitment to building a society free of violence and discrimination. Together, we can create a safer environment where everyone, especially women and girls, can thrive without fear,” she added.

The event, which aimed to raise awareness about GBV, also featured educational sessions on identifying, preventing, and reporting abuse. Participants expressed their appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and empowering. Hajiya Salma reiterated her commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to implement policies and programs that address GBV and promote gender equality in Kaduna South Local Government Area.
