Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State has flagged off a comprehensive immunization exercise aimed at eradicating polio, measles, and other child-killer diseases in the area.
The campaign was officially launched at Wanka village, where the Council Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Molash, urged husbands to support their wives in bringing their children for vaccination.
He emphasized the importance of community participation in ensuring the success of the exercise. Molash, who was represented by Sama'ila Ibrahim Dikko, stressed the need for cooperation, particularly in areas with low compliance.
A representative of the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Halima Ibrahim, revealed that the previous round of polio immunization targeted 2,909,945 children, but only 2,106,213 received the vaccine.
She appealed to parents—especially nursing mothers—to ensure their children are immunized, noting that the vaccines are essential to protect them from deadly yet preventable diseases.
Earlier, the Secretary of Primary Health Care Centers in Soba Local Government, Alhaji Shu’aibu Tambaya Likoro, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of nursing mothers at the flag-off ceremony of the five-day exercise.
Alhaji Likoro encouraged mothers to continue bringing their children for vaccination, reiterating that the vaccines are free of charge and crucial for the health and safety of children.
He further assured the public that the immunization campaign would be conducted house-to-house to ensure maximum coverage. He charged participating health staff to show dedication and thoroughness in reaching all eligible children within the communities.
