YSFON/Andishu Northwest U17 Football Tournament Kicks Off in Kaduna, - 16 goals recorded on opening day as Kaduna, Katsina shine







The Youth Sports federation of Nigeria, (YSFON) Northwest U17 football competition in partnership with Moses Andishu kicks off at the Murtala Muhammad Square Kaduna.

A total 16 goals were scored in match day one, in the opening game of the competition Kaduna State Team A picked a narrow lone goal advantage in the eleven goals thriller against Jigawa state ending 6-5 While Katsina state takes Kaduna Team B counterpart to the cleaners with 5 unreplied goals to conclude day one.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Northwest Zonal Technical Director, YSFON, said the tournament is part of the federation’s grassroots program to discover future stars. He noted that seven states are participating, with Sokoto absent due to financial challenges.

“The tournament is a partnership with a sports Philanthropist Moses Andishu to afford the players platform to showcase their talents” 

Our target is to make the event annual, with incentives for the top three teams, individual awards, and mentorship opportunities for discovered players,” Jere explained.

Reacting after the match, Coach Jonathan Gado of Queens planet football academy (Kaduna Team A) declared: “We came here to win, and that’s our focus.”

On his part, Coach Shuaibu Idris of Jigawa’s Kiyawa LGA U17 team hailed his local government chairman for supporting the boys’ debut. Despite a narrow defeat, he said the result shows the team has the determination to go far in the tournament.
