KADUNA – Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has issued a clarion call to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), urging the prominent northern body to return to its founding principles of fostering unity and championing a development-driven agenda for the region.
Speaking on Friday at an event marking the ACF's 25th anniversary, Abubakar reminded the gathering that the forum was established to consolidate regional unity and revive the north's core developmental pillars: education, agriculture, and industrial growth—a vision he traced back to the legacy of the region’s first premier, the late Sir Ahmadu Bello.
The former presidential candidate struck a sobering note, declaring that the north must confront its current "developmental stagnation" with renewed urgency. He identified the failure to effectively manage the country's diversity as a primary threat to national unity.
“The major issue with our unity is our failure to manage our diversity,” Abubakar stated in his address to the forum’s members and dignitaries.
His comments come amid ongoing national debates about regional development, security challenges, and national cohesion. The speech is seen as a significant intervention, calling for introspection and a strategic reorientation of one of the north's most influential socio-political organizations.
