The stage is officially set for the climax of the 9th Kaduna State Governor’s Peace and Unity Football Competition. The grand finale, where Giwa Local Government Area will face Makarfi Local Government Area for the prestigious trophy, has been scheduled for Thursday, 18th December 2025, at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Sports Complex, Kaduna.
The announcement finalizes plans for a major sporting event designed to celebrate harmony across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas. Preceding the final match, Jaba LGA will battle Kagarko LGA in the third-place playoff, promising a full day of competitive football.
In a statement signed by the President of the Maisamari Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), Honourable Babami Danlami, the organisers declared their readiness for a spectacular event. “We are ready for a befitting final as we also prepare for the next edition,” Danlami stated.
He expressed profound gratitude for the state government’s backing, saying, “We are also grateful for the governor’s support to enable us to provide a platform for the teeming youths in Kaduna State to showcase their talents and engage their energies positively.”
Danlami also extended commendations to the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Sadiq Mamman Legas, for his pivotal role. “Our association is proud of his commitment to grassroots football development. Just take a look at what’s happening to the township stadium at the moment—it’s a testament to his dedication to sports infrastructure turnaround in Kaduna State,” the MYSA President added.
Governor Senator Uba Sani will be the Special Guest of Honour, presenting the trophy to the victorious team. His presence is expected to underscore the state administration’s core message of fostering unity and peaceful coexistence through youth engagement and sports. Commissioner Legas and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kaduna State will serve as chief hosts.
The tournament has been widely hailed as a successful grassroots initiative, channeling youthful energy towards constructive competition and talent discovery. The finalists, Jaba and Makarfi, have emerged from a keenly contested series of matches, earning their place in the historic decider.
Gates are expected to open by midday, with entertainment and cultural displays planned ahead of the kick-off.
All roads now lead to the NDA Sports Complex this Thursday, where football will once again serve as the unifying language for Kaduna State.
